Fans of Brian Eno's second solo album know the story of how the title of this album came from the Maoist revolutionary opera of the same name: Eno came across a set of picture postcards which fascinated him, and was inspired to create an album that is quite unlike any of his other works. Reproduced on this page are the cover and several of the most interesting images from a set of cards that is probably similar to the one Eno talks about. I came across the set in a Shanghai market a few years ago, and hope that others find them as fascinating as I do.
